As a fellow mancunian my thoughts are with the family and friends of all those affected, and there is no place for this in our city.
I heard the sirens. I saw the police helicopter pass over my house and hung my head in despair at the reason for the alarm. We must all answer the call and show solidarity and support for members of the Jewish community, who for too long have endured unchecked hostility in this and other UK cities. We must not normalise or explain away hate. We must meet it where it is, in plain sight — as clear as the sky the helicopter flew through, and as deafening as the sirens that sounded.
